About Dr. Soorya Kaur
Soorya became interested in Eastern Philosophy and technology at a very early age of 14 while living in Los Angeles and started her practice of meditation, yoga, nutrition and a natural holistic lifestyle.
In 1969 she met her spiritual teacher at the age of 19. With the spirit of a mission, Soorya helped establish the 3HO (Healthy, Happy & Holy Organization) foundation in Los Angeles, California in1969. She pioneered and opened up several Yoga Ashrams and educational teaching centers in Washington, DC, Philadelphia, Pa., Woodstock, New York, San Diego, California, and Orlando, Florida. During that period she also initiated free kitchens, and taught yoga in prisons. Aside from the US, she has also taught Yoga in Sri Lanka, Singapore, India, and throughout Europe.
Soorya combines her expertise as a Doctor of Acupuncture and Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist with her experience as a certified Kundalini Yoga Teacher and Holistic Practitioner, and Raw Food Expert. The follower of a spiritual path for the last 44 years, she has been instrumental in spreading holistic teachings not only through the application of these healing modalities to other’s lives, but by incorporating them into her own. Her commitment to leading a healthy lifestyle is motivated by a fundamental belief that well being is the act of returning the body, mind and spirit to a state of balance and requires a person to ‘experience’ a transformation, and not just study its methods.
Over the 36 years in service to 3HO and Sikh Dharma, she has produced and directed many programs in various fields. As Managing Editor, Art Director, and Photographer for the magazine “Beads of Truth” for fifteen years, Soorya was instrumental in spreading spiritualism and yogic techniques to the masses. Her photographs have been published in 4 books and several publications. In 2005, she self-published a photographical portrait titled “Yogiji, The Light of Our Souls”.
As a producer, director, and contributing teacher for events for the 3HO/Sikh Dharma she organized women’s camps, children’s camps, teacher training courses, yoga camps, seminars and special programs including Peace Pray Day. She expanded the Master’s Touch Teacher Training courses to Europe.
Director of the 3HO Superhealth Drug Rehabilitation live-in Center, in Tucson, Arizona, Soorya conducted programs for de-addiction. It was during this period of time that she studied and became a Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist, expanding her knowledge to help in the de-addiction.
Early part of the 2000’s began her interest and study in Acupuncture on a professional level. She studied both in America and Sri Lanka where she received her degrees.
Soorya Kaur was invited by the Government of Punjab, India, in 1998, to take part in the organization of the 300th Celebration of the Sikhs in Anandpur Sahib. She was then deputed to stay on to build and establish a teaching facility for the 3HO/Sikh Dharma Education International. She also started a Yoga Center and Holistic Clinic in Chandigarh in 2004 while continuing her project in Anandpur Sahib. When the project was complete Soorya decided to continue on in India, and opened the “Cleanse Café” in New Delhi, a healing center for cleansing and detoxing utilizing the art of raw food.
As a spiritual guide, she continues to counsel people of all age groups to enhance their quality of personal, spiritual, emotional, and professional life.
Raw Food
Soorya began her journey into conscious eating at the early age of 16 while living in Los Angeles. She received her first inspiration from a book she read called “The Mucus-less Diet Healing System” by Professor Arnold Ehret. It immediately resonated with her and thus began her first fast. Throughout her life, she continued to experiment with many cleanses, mono diets, and fasts.
After 38 years of experimenting with health food, Dr. Soorya eats only raw foods. Seven years ago she was introduced to the raw food concept and knew right away that this was the correct way of eating for her. It took her several years to study and incorporate it into her life.
Several years ago she spent time in New Mexico with her friends who conduct raw food detox cleanses and studied their programs. From there she spent the remainder of her summer in Paris where she found herself eating a lot of chocolate, cheese and bread. The day she returned to her home in New Delhi, India, she immediately went 100% raw. Being very passionate about it, and experiencing such incredible changes in her health, energy, and skin, (and shed those extra unwanted pounds without trying) she began sharing it with whomever she met. This led her to an invitation to a Christmas Party with friends from the American Embassy, where Soorya prepared an entire raw food feast. Everybody was amazed how much they like it, how tasty it was, and how good they felt afterward.
Surprised to find that many people were interested in the concept, Soorya started the Cleanse Café, introducing the Raw Food Detox Cleanses and Cuisine In New Delhi, India. Teaching, educating, and preparing the food became her way of life and passion.
